AFN National Chief says Booming Population of First Nations People Requires Urgent Government Action and Immediate New Investments

OTTAWA, Jan. 15 - Today's release of the 2006 Census by Statistics Canada indicates that the population of First Nations people has increased by 29 per cent in the last decade.

KO Telemedicine team meets with Health Canada Minister Tony Clement, COO Regional Chief, NAN Grand Chief

NAN Deputy Grand Chief Stan Beardy and the Chiefs of Ontario Regional Chief Angus Toulouse met with Health Minister Tony Clement in Kenora last week.  Agenda items included public health requirements for First Nations, infrastructure upgrades to FN health centres and Telemedicine. 

Donna Williams, the KO Telemedicine Program Manager, was invited to attend the meeting and be a resource for any questions the minister may have about Telemedicine.

Reducing poverty should lead the agenda of today’s First Ministers’ Meeting in Ottawa, says Campaign 2000, the national non-partisan coalition working to end child and family poverty. In an open letter, the coalition urged the First Ministers to use the meeting to take initial steps toward creating a national Poverty Reduction Strategy with targets and timetables.
